About Junisha Kumano Shrine
Junisha Kumano Shrine sits on the north-west edge of Shinjuku Central Park, not on the station postcard. Suzuki Kuro, the so-called Nakano millionaire, is said to have invited twelve Kumano deities here in the Oei years. The neighbourhood name Juniso comes from that. After the Meiji rename it is Kumano Jinja. Enshrined are Kushimikenuno-okami and Izanami-no-okami. The grounds are open all day. The shrine office is 09:00 to 16:30. Prayer reception 09:00 to 15:00. Goshuin is written by hand except for seasonal printed sheets. Reitaisai is the third Saturday and Sunday of September. Office buildings around the park join the mikoshi in the hon-matsuri years. Tocho-mae A5 is about four minutes. Nishi-Shinjuku-gochome is about four. JR Shinjuku West Exit is a longer walk or the Keio bus to Juniso-ikenoshita. Commercial photography on the grounds is restricted to the shrine's own photo studio. This is a neighbourhood shrine. Do not type it as a mall.
