Yayoi Kusama's work is often described as "pop" — vivid, immediate, and accessible. The Kusama-z Pop exhibition at her dedicated five-floor museum in Shinjuku traces this characterization back to its roots, exploring the connection between Kusama's practice and the Pop Art movement that flowered in 1960s New York, when she was based there.
The exhibition runs through August 30, 2026, with the museum open 11:00–17:30 (last entry 17:00). Tickets are timed-entry and must be booked in advance via the official site. The museum is small — most visitors spend 60–90 minutes — but the collection is dense, pairing Kusama's signature polka-dot paintings and infinity rooms with archival material on her New York years.
