Kuroju LUMINE EST Shinjuku is a branch of Kuroju, a Japanese restaurant founded in Kobe that has built a loyal local following over many years. The Shinjuku branch opened on 1 November 2025 on the seventh floor of LUMINE EST Shinjuku at 3-38-1 Shinjuku, becoming the brand's third outlet overall and its second in the Kanto region following Yokohama Moa's. The restaurant sits within the LUMINE EST dining floor, which is directly connected to JR Shinjuku Station.
The menu is built around two pillars: kamameshi, individual iron-pot rice dishes cooked to order with carefully selected domestic rice and a fragrant dashi, and aburi, grilled and seared dishes designed to pair with sake. The rice is chosen by a fourth-generation rice master from a Kobe rice merchant founded in 1889, and signature kamameshi include sea urchin and corn as well as seasonal variations. Grilled dishes such as shiitake steak with dashi butter are also popular, and the drinks list features warm sake chosen to complement the food.
Kuroju is open from 11:00 to 22:00 with last orders at 21:00, and follows the LUMINE EST schedule for closing days. The restaurant is reached directly from the JR Shinjuku Station platforms without going outdoors, making it convenient for both lunch and dinner, and reservations through Tabelog are recommended for weekend evenings.
