Toraya, one of Japan's oldest wagashi makers with roots tracing back to the 16th century, opened this modern cafe concept to make traditional Japanese sweets accessible to contemporary audiences, and the Shinjuku branch sits just above the JR Shinjuku new south exit.The cafe specialises in an - the red bean paste that is the foundation of Japanese confectionery - served in innovative ways that bridge traditional and modern tastes. Signature offerings include an-pan bread filled with sweet red bean paste, an-butter toast, and parfaits showcasing the distinctive flavour of Toraya's carefully prepared azuki. Seasonal wagashi and matcha drinks round out a menu that lets visitors experience the depth of Japanese sweet culture in a relaxed, cafe-style setting.
Toraya Cafe An Stand is located on the second floor of NEWoMan Shinjuku at Sendagaya 5-24-55, directly accessible from JR Shinjuku Station's new south exit. Opening hours are 10:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and until 21:30 on weekends, making it a convenient spot for a morning coffee, an afternoon treat or a late-evening dessert after dinner in the Shinjuku area.

Dining experience at Toraya Café. Established by Enchu Kurokawa in the 16th century (said to be between 1526 and 1555), it has a long and storied history.

I went to try their seasonal shaved ice. I ordered a small size and added the seasonal topping of green plum. I chose hot sencha as my set drink. I was happy to hear that they offered such a lovely combination.
