Onitsuka Tiger Opens World's Largest Global Flagship Store in Shinjuku
On Friday, July 10, 2026, Onitsuka Tiger cut the ribbon on a new global flagship spanning four floors and 1,837 square metres at 3-26-11 Shinjuku, making it the brand's largest store anywhere in the world. The opening places a Tiger-Yellow monolith in the middle of one of Tokyo's busiest shopping streets, a few minutes' walk from Shinjuku-sanchome Station.
The concept, which the brand calls a "vertical narrative," stacks its full portfolio across the building's three main sales floors and a mezzanine. Heritage reinterprets the Onitsuka Tiger archive. Contemporary carries the Milan Fashion Week ONITSUKA TIGER line. Formality showcases THE ONITSUKA, the brand's formal footwear category. The mezzanine introduces the first amusement area in any Onitsuka Tiger store, operated with GENDA GiGO Entertainment.
A facade designed as a Shinjuku landmark
The exterior is a bold Tiger-Yellow concrete facade conceived as a monolith standing within the urban landscape. Smooth surfaces are combined with striped textures, a treatment that ASICS says is meant to convey integrity of materials, rhythm, and precision, in tribute to Japanese artisanal excellence and Tokyo's vibrant urbanity. It reads as a deliberate counterpoint to the glass-and-steel department stores that dominate the surrounding blocks.
The first floor: black and Giallo Siena marble
The ground floor welcomes visitors with a striking interplay of bold materials and colours. Black flooring is paired with warm Giallo Siena marble, expressing the brand's signature palette with both dynamism and sophistication. The essential lines and tactile surfaces reflect the aesthetic of Japanese design, while the black-and-yellow contrast creates a modern, vibrant atmosphere. This is the floor where most walk-in traffic will land, and the design signals immediately that this is not a conventional sneaker boutique.
The second floor: graphic NIPPON MADE territory
The second floor reveals a more graphic aesthetic, anchored by black terrazzo with a distinctive grainy texture and accents of yellow. Light is used to lend rhythm and depth to the space, evoking movement at the brand's core. In the area dedicated to the globally acclaimed NIPPON MADE series, furniture inspired by 1970s Italian design is featured. It is a blend of warmth, individuality, and timeless craftsmanship that underscores the brand's contemporary sensibility, and a clear signal that Onitsuka Tiger is positioning NIPPON MADE as a craft line, not a mass product.
The third floor: tranquility and Rosso Lepanto
The third floor is a space filled with tranquility and refinement, inspired by the quiet elegance of Japanese interiors. Rosso Lepanto marble, satin brass, and fine-brushed stainless steel create a refined contrast of materials. Geometric forms harmonize with gallery-like displays, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the brand's iconic collections. Where the first floor is loud, the third floor is deliberately restrained, the quietest room in the building.
The mezzanine: an amusement area first
The mezzanine introduces the brand's first-ever amusement area, offering an exclusive retail experience in partnership with GENDA GiGO Entertainment. It is a small floor, but it is the detail that distinguishes this store from every other Onitsuka Tiger location. The design firm behind the entire interior is Studio Dini Cataldi, a Milan-based architecture practice founded by Filippo Dini and Gianluca Cataldi, known for retail and residential work that blends Italian and Japanese design cultures. That Italian hand is visible throughout, from the marble selections to the 1970s-inspired furniture on the second floor.
Why Shinjuku, and why now
Onitsuka Tiger continues to position its stores as places where visitors can experience the brand's values and story. As the brand's largest global flagship store, bringing together all its categories under one roof, it offers a new brand experience to visitors from around the world. Shinjuku was chosen over Ginza and Omotesando for a reason: the district sits at the intersection of domestic commuter traffic, inbound tourism, and the kind of street-fashion density that the brand has been leaning into since its Milan Fashion Week push. Opening during the summer travel season maximises exposure to both audiences.
